The beauty of observing — MAIF Social Club

After the Dover Street market, I visited the exhibition in the MAIF social club within a few minutes of walking. Unlike the Dover Street market, the room has color and design elements. There are more kids and families in the exhibition. With the playing sounds of kids, the whole space becomes much more lively compared to the market.

The Eyes

The exhibition revolved around the theme of humans and human action. All of the pieces caught my eye. My top favorite is the electronic screen of a man's face. The screen shows the human face's muscles, veins, and other facial features under the skin. Interestingly, the face changes if the audience looks at it from a different position.

Cuddling of the Original

My second favorite piece is a piece of two humans cuddling together. The humans are made of fabric and are sewn together. Humans don’t have facial expressions. Instead, it only shows the muscle system under the skin. I was shocked by this piece. I never looked at a human being without skin covering and facial features. Everything returns to its original form without any decorations or extra beauty elements added to it. This artwork makes me rethink how social media and fashion secretly forced people to decorate themselves with different jewelry, makeup, and clothes. People slowly forget who they are without all the aesthetic elements.

Nowadays, social media triggers a lot of social appearance anxiety. However, people forget that all humans look similar under the skin. For example, all humans have identical muscle systems and blood veins.

The Lighting Between the Touch

My third favorite piece is a piece with lighting. This artwork will create a lighting effect if I follow the written directions. As the directions are written in French, I don’t understand them, so I didn’t follow them correctly to create the effect. Luckily, two little girls came and helped me to make the lightning effect. I have to put my hand onto the hand-shaped stone and use my index finger to point toward my hand on the stone. Then, the wall will create a reflection of blue lights.

The Game of Hide and Seek

I also found another interesting piece. The artwork is made of ribbons. The robbins are hanging on the ceiling. Children in the exhibition will run in and out of the hanging ribbons. Seeing all the children having fun hide and seek in the hanging ribbons is heartwarming.

Don’t forget the Original

Of the two exhibitions, I enjoy the MAIF social club more than the street market. I loved the lively, extroverted, and colorful vibe of the atmosphere. I also loved all the exhibits. It makes me rethink how much I consume on the internet. Undergoing introspection, I realized how much I am influenced by all the fashion elements and other internet content. Sometimes, I easily get overwhelmed by the internet because I forget to look at the problem and everyone around me from the foundation.
